「Tomari Iyu machi」 (Tomari fish town) was established in May, 2005, in the Minato-machi part of Naha City with the goal to increase popularity and sales of Okinawa’s seafood. There are specialized shops for tuna and mozuku seaweed (Nemacystus decipiens), and 23 marine product wholesalers inside the building. There is a room with a glass window to show fish preparation. The average catch per day is 20 tons, but can reach as much as 50 tons. About 70% of the catch is tuna. Each shop sells fresh fish right out of the ocean. Besides sushi and sashimi, Okinawan style tempura and mozuku (Nemacystus decipiens) are sold. Some shops sell Maguro Don, a bowl of rice topped with tuna sashimi.
