Shichanu Agarijo-ga is a communal well located to the northeast of Kangusuku-bashi Bridge in Kinjo-cho, Shuri, at the south end of about a 120m slope. On “Shuri Kochizu (The Old Map of Shuri)(Stored in the Prefectural Museum)” in the 18th century, this well is marked with a circle.
The slope was dug to have an L-letter-shaped well; the opening of the well was dug vertically to get a crescent-moon shape, and the inside was plastered with stone walls. The arch of this crescent-moon shape opening was piled with earth-retaining stone walls, and the quarter phase of this crescent-moon shape is used for a stone-paved open space for fetching water. The stone-paved space has two steps and the space on the lower step retain water overflow from the well, which is used for laundry and washing sweet potatoes. This well is small, but its is well-balanced and has a quaint surrounding. This well not only served for drinking water for the local residents, but it also has been deeply associated with everyday living.
