During the Ryukyu Kingdom period, the Shukumichi (present national road) ran to Shimajiri, Nakagami, and Kunigami, connecting bansho (present local municipality offices). The road to Nakagami and Kunigami ran from the Matsuzaki Baba Site (Horse Racing Site), passing Adaniga-taki (place of worship), Jibu Ufumichi (big road), and to the Urasoe Bansho (present local municipality office). Adani-ga is on the way to the slope. When descending the stone-paved stairs, you can see rectangular ka-nuna (space in front of the well). The space is now covered with concrete, but below that, the stone pavement still remains.
The Ka (well) is about a 1m deep dig-in style well and the stone walls were piled with “Aikata-zumi,” where piles of stones are cut into polygonal shapes prior to fitting. The roof and the edge might have been added for safety. Because of the ledge in the area, water from Agani-ga is discharged through the covered conduit on the opposite side to flow into the river about 40m away.
Adani-ga is sung in “Yara Kuwainiya” an old popular song in the 15C, which tells us that the well existed in those days.
