Shuri Castle Festival, The Banquet of Traditional Art

“The banquet of traditional art” is held every October with the Shuri Castle festival at the garden of Shuri Castle Park. Admission is free for the garden area. The banquet shows the Ryukyu kingdom era’s Ryukyu dances, traditional performances, and Ryukyu classical music for three days. Ryukyu dance developed as a welcome dance for envoys from the Chinese emperor. The Ryukyu dancers performed in the program, Kagiyadefu (Celebrational dance), Zei, Maenohama (In front of the beach), Yotsutake (four bamboos), Tancha-mae (In front of Tancha), and Kana-yo-tenkawa (milky way). Also, the banquet shows traditional local Lion dances, martial arts using staffs, Ryukyu drum performances, and court music.

Access information
Take the "Yui Rail" from Naha Airport. Get off at Shuri station. A 10-minute walk away. Take the city bus line number (1, or 17), the outside city line No. 46, get off at the Shurijo-mae bus stop, and its about a 5-minute walk to the Shurei gate.
Take the number 8 Shurijo Shitamachi bus line, get off at Shurijo-mae bus stop, and its a 1 minute walk to the front of the Shurei gate.
Take the number 9, or number 25 city bus line, get off at the Yamakawa bus stop, and its about a 15 minute walk to the Shurei gate.
